We educate students with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly globalising world
Our American curriculum is based on the AERO Common Core Plus Standards, plus Advanced Placement courses at the upper levels of high school.
Pedagogy follows best practice research, and focuses on teaching independent, critical thinking, close reading, and writing. Academically, we prepare students for rigorous university study.
AISM provides an environment in which all children can be creative and successful.
The curriculum is based on U.S. national standards and best practice research
Pre-KG and KG1 (Age: 3 and 4 years old)
The formative years of Pre-KG and KG1 introduce children to learning in a caring, safe, supportive and nurturing environment, where they are encouraged to explore, discover and make choices throughout their day. Play is at the center of the program and considered a child’s “work” as they expand their ability to work cooperatively while strengthening their social, emotional, physical and cognitive abilities.
Through carefully planned experiences students are introduced to:
- English (letters, sounds, speaking and listening)
- Math (numbers, shapes)
- Creative Expression (colors, drawing, painting, creating)
KG2 (Age: 5 years old)
The KG2 year introduces children to the US Common Core curriculum and is considered the first year of formal education in the American system. Children begin to apply their letter/sound knowledge as they emerge as readers and writers. In mathematics, strong numeracy skills are developed through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Instruction is personalized to meet each child’s established learning goals. KG2 children continue to enjoy opportunities for choice and play in our purpose-built, expansive indoor and outdoor areas.
The Pre-KG and KG1 programs are designed to prepare children for the expectations of the Common Core curriculum while fostering each child’s unique developmental needs.
Elementary School is more structured and text-based than Kindergarten, but students are transitioned into the higher levels of learning at an appropriate pace while new levels of learning are developed.
Curriculum for students in Grades 1 through 5 emphasizes basic skills in all subject areas and introduces higher level skills to challenge students and stimulate their interests and thinking. The curriculum fosters the concept that learning will be enjoyable and rewarding throughout students’ lives.
The Middle School includes grades 6 through 8. It is based on an enriched American instructional model and provides an environment in which all children can be creative and successful. We strive to meet the social, emotional and academic needs of middle level students.
Middle School teachers meet regularly to plan integrated units, to discuss student concerns and successes and to coordinate testing, assignments, and homework. Students in grades 6 through 8 participate in elective programs, which include a wide variety of course selections including instrumental music, world languages, art, drama, and information technology.
The High School serves grades 9 through 12. The curriculum in the high school is an academically challenging pre-university program with an American school curriculum focus in grades 9 and 10.
In addition, students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities to supplement their academic program. At AISM, it is expected that students assume responsibility for their own achievements in education while working in partnership with teacher and parent guidance.
Why choose an American school?
The American curriculum is based on high standards of achievement in all subject areas. This broad and balanced approach is supported by a wide range of co-curricular activities which equip all students with the skills they need for the 21st century.
